*The
Seddon firm was founded in the 18th century by George Seddon, who
became one of London’s largest manufacturers of furniture and one of
its finest cabinet-makers. The business remained in the family for
many years. Only the best Seddon furniture was labelled. Many items
are illustrated in Christopher Gilbert’s Pictorial Dictionary of
Marked London Furniture, London, 1996
**The
frame top is constructed so as to allow the top to swivel smoothly
on baize inset into the wood, rather than on the wood itself
