Description:
This rosewood veneer on cedar card table was made c 1845. It was purchased from Graeme Dodd Antiques. The table does not bear the maker’s label or mark. Graeme Dodd attributed the table to Andrew Lenehan. Lenehan is known to have made card tables with rosewood veneer on cedar; and the carving of the lion’s paw feet is remarkably similar to the feet on Lenehan tables that bear his label or mark. The table bears a later label of Charles Artlett, who probably repaired or sold it in Sydney during the period 1855-1883. A similar rosewood on cedar card table is illustrated in K Vidler and G Dodd, 1988 Commemorative Collection of Fine Australian Furniture, p 104.
Price: $4,900
