 Cedar Centre Table c1855 ex-Tasmania

  • This fine centre table has a top of ribbon cedar, with a most unusual bevelled edge.

  • The skirt is strikingly cross-banded.

  • The pedestal is of solid cedar. It displays carved acanthus leaves above the deeply-moulded collar.

  • The base is of cedar veneered on cedar, with cross-banding to its concave tri-form sides. It is supported on scroll-form feet with mini-palmette carvings. The feet stand on concealed casters.

  • This table is similar in a number of respects to the one shown in K Fahy and A Simpson, Australian Furniture, p 397."
